According to the prime minister of Thailand, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has proposed a "4 countries, 1 destination" tourism initiative in which Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand would all work together.

Culturally and economically, as well as geographically, Vietnam and Laos are quite close. By capitalizing on this advantage and making use of incentives provided by the Bilateral commerce Agreement and the Vietnam – Laos Border Trade Agreement, commerce in goods and services has been enhanced between the two nations. The volume of commerce between Vietnam and Laos has increased significantly during the last three years, and it is now projected to surpass one billion USD.

The Vietnam-Laos Friendship Park development was recently inaugurated and handed over to the Vietnamese government in a ceremony that took place in the Viengxay district of Huaphanh province, which is located in Northern Laos.

The Vietnamese province of Quang Tri and the Laotian province of Savannakhet have settled on holding a workshop on the "Lao Bao - Den-sa-van joint cross-border Economic and Trade zone" in order to finalize the cross-border commercial zone project and prepare a bilateral agreement that the Laotian and Vietnamese governments can sign.
