At the official working session of the high-ranking delegation of Quang Tri province with the provinces of Laos, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee of Quang Tri established a working group of Quang Tri province with the purpose of surveying and studying the mechanisms, a specific policy to advise the coordination with the two provinces of Laos. Thereby, there is a project to submit to the Governments of the two countries to build a cross-border economic and trade zone in the future.

Economic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos is having positive results in the first period of 2022. To implement the cooperation agreement between the two countries, Minister of Foriegn Affairs of Vietnam Mr. Bui Thanh Son accepted the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Mr. Saleumsay Kommasith and had an official visit to Laos and presided over the 9th Vietnam-Laos Foreign Minister's Consultation Meeting.

A trading relationship between Vietnam and Laos has grown steadily over the last 60 years, and the two nations have signed the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation 45 years ago. Ending 2 years of being hindered by the Covid-19 epidemic, from the beginning of 2021 onwards, trade between the two sides has grown strongly, the structure of import and export of goods has changed and the list of goods has become increasingly diversified.
