Vietnam and Laos strengthen cooperation on trade and energy
On August 16 - 18, in Vientiane, A delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), led by Minister Tran Tuan Anh, attend the conference on Vietnam-Laos cooperation in developing the industry & trade, energy and mines in Vientiane, at the invitation of the Minister of Industry and Trade of Laos and the Minister of Energy and Mining of Laos.
On August 17, Minister Tran Tuan Anh had meetings with Laos’ Minister of Industry and Trade Khemmani Pholsena and Laos’ Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthirath to discuss on major issues in the field of trade, industry, energy.
At his meeting with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Laos, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh emphasized the positive effects of Vietnam - Laos Trade Agreement, Vietnam - Laos Border Trade Agreement on trade and transition of products between two sides, contributing to the growth rate of bilateral trade over 10% per year, completing the goals set at the 41st meeting of the Vietnam – Laos intergovernmental committee.
At the meeting between Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Laos’ Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Laos’ Minister discussed with Minister Tran Tuan Anh about the possibility of buying and selling electricity in Nam Ou 5-6-7 project, coal power project in Laman and Boualapha; Wind power project of 600 MW in Sekong province in the near future. In this regard, Minister Tran Tuan Anh said that Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has been assigned by the Government to negotiate with Laos investors on the integration plan, price, capacity and power output in order to ensure compliance with regulations and interests of both parties.
The conference on Vietnam-Laos cooperation in developing the industry & trade, energy and mines is an annual event to review the cooperation, solve difficulties and problems and propose solutions to further strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in the field of industry, trade, energy and mines.
